Anna Chi

Anna Chi is a Chinese-born and raised award-winning filmmaker who brings the layered perspective of an immigrant, a woman, and a person of color, to her work as a director. After commencing her career as a film editor and producer in China, she moved to the U.S. and earned her MFA in Directing from UCLA. Her stories often explore themes of identity, memory, and generational connection—grounded in her own journey navigating two differing cultures.

Her directing credits include a slate of award-winning films such as Blindness, Dim Sum Funeral, Cicada Summer, Swimming, and Surprise Island. Her latest feature, The Disappearance of Mrs. Wu, was released in 2023 by Picturehouse and Freestyle. In 2024, she completed the short Buried Above Ground and is currently editing a new short, Two Pennies. Between her feature and short films, she has received several accolades, including a Best Achievement in Directing award, the Gold Remi Feature award and Best Short Drama Film honors from various film festivals.

Early in her Hollywood career, Anna worked alongside directors such as Wayne Wang, Oliver Stone, Chen Kaige, and Michael Radford. She has also collaborated with top producers and studios, including Hallmark, Disney, DreamWorks, and Legendary Entertainment.
