Najia Khaan is an Afghan filmmaker from the city of Mazar-e-Sharif in North Afghanistan. Raised in London from the age of nine, she returned to her homeland as an adult to reconnect with her roots. What she discovered was a society that shields the powerful and foresakes the vulnerable - including countless children groomed for servitude and exploitation. This painful truth compelled her to create Shadows of Innocence, a documentary that stands not only as a protest against silence, but as Najia's personal reckoning as a woman, a filmmaker and, above all, as someone who once called Afghanistan home.
